Strength to Accelerate

Main Course: A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalms 27:1)

Next to receiving salvation and the infilling of God's Holy Spirit is receiving strength to hold on to our salvation, to grow in it, and to be restored back to God’s original “plan for man.” The Bible says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philip 4:13). Jesus continues to give us strength as we abide in Him (Jn. 15:1-5). We find strength by coming into His presence which is also where His joy resides (Ps. 16:11). But this kind of joy is special because it pulled Him through the cross (the worst time and most difficult situation of His life). Therefore, if we partake of this joy, it can bring us through triumphantly and victoriously as well (Heb. 12:2).

This joy or strength that was granted to Nehemiah to build - to re-build the walls of Jerusalem in record-breaking time (Neh. 8:10; 6:15). Every time their enemies tried to shame them, the Israelites got stronger and stayed focused on what was set before them. Their enemies where left speechless because none of their tactics or threats worked (cf. Ps. 23:5-6; Neh. 6:16; cf. Ps. 126:1).

We, as believers must not forget we have a well within us to draw strength from. When we pump the well of thanksgiving, praise and worship, His strength rises/springs up in us (Is. 58:8-11; Ps. 100:4; Col. 1:27). Another measure of strength, greatness and power is released into our lives to do His will (Ezk. 47:3-5). Like anything else, this takes time and effort so don't be caught off guard by the adversary, who is lurking around the corner (1 Pet. 5:8). Discouragement, disillusionment and distractions are like wolves; they live and run in packs. Don't give any place to the devil, he has stolen enough from you (weakened you through sin and the pressures of life). Stand your ground, and they will back down because no weapon formed against you will prosper.

So you see, once we get saved, our next feat is to strengthen our inner man (Eph 3:16; Jude 20). We have to make a conscious decision to position/strengthen ourselves daily (Ps. 16:8), which at times will require much persistence and perseverance; nevertheless a net-breaking reward awaits (Heb. 11:6; Eph. 3:20).

In summary, it seems as though most of our problems stem from the lack of strength to be restored (replenished, renewed, and refreshed) to "Zoe" - the life God has planned for us (Ps. 23:3; Rms. 8:29-30).
