The Cicadas are coming (Sick-ka das)

Main Course: For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem's sake I will not remain quiet, till her vindication shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch (Isaiah 62:1).

We just received an environmental alert in the news today (5/20/21) that the cicadas are coming. They are going to be emerging from underground and taking over mostly on the East Coast and in the Midwestern states. These insects that are part of the grasshopper and locust family can occupy small areas in large amounts: 1.5 million per acre. As a result, there could be billions and even trillions on land at any given time. Cicadas emerge every 13 or 17 years to mate, spawn, and then die off in about 4 to 6 weeks. While in hibernation, cicadas are not inactive. The nymphs burrow down and grow underground surviving on the liquid (sap) from tree roots, plants, and shrubs. The periodical cicadas are the longest living insect species (unlike the annual cicadas who live 2-5 years).

Spiritually, prophetically, and symbolically, I believe the cicadas - the kings and priests are coming. They are here, ready to emerge with great sound, in great numbers, and in great strength. This is their time to live out their lifespan to reach their destiny, to take positions in the kingdom of God and in society synchronically. They come out of great obscurity just as the brood emerges from underground to begin to bring forth and produce in record time (Is. 66:8; cf. Neh. 6:15).

The cicadas are here and here to take over (Matt. 11:12). What you would do in a year will be done in days because of the hiding of his power, great strength, and the connectedness in the spirit with other believers, who have answered the call (Hab. 1:5; 3:3-4; cf. Is.49:2). When you have completed your assignment in one place, you’ll die off (leave and move on without reservation or hesitation). “God doesn’t want us holding on to anything in this life where we are going. In other words, if where you are going, you don’t need it, there’s no point in taking it with you.” - WHL. The male cicadas die off after they mate and the females die off after they hatch their eggs which can be up to 600 laid on leaves, tree trunks, and branches.

The sound for mating that comes from the males to attract females can reach up to 100 decibels, equal to the sound of a lawnmower. There will be a sound that will emerge from your belly – the rivers of living waters hidden in your spirit, but in time all flesh will see it together (Jn. 7:38; Is. 40:4-5) just as the role of time and temperature are crucial for the cicadas. They wait for the right conditions for breeding, which are when the ground thaws to 65°F (18°C) in a brood’s designated year. When we abide in the Word and the Word abides in us, the temperature of the soil rises - our hearts soften enough for Holy Spirit to perform God's Word in our lives (Heb. 13:21). When our hearts are set on “not my will but thine be done, Lord” then we are ready for release. We shed our old shell/nymph to become mature adults in Christ ready to produce for the kingdom of God and not our own fleshly desires (Lk. 22:42; Jn. 4:34; Philip. 1:6).

So go on and sing aloud, break forth (Is. 54:1-5; Zeph. 3:17). Go for it, barren woman your time has come! You are released to sing. You are released to dance. You are released to shout and rejoice. You are released from the underground world of darkness, quietness, hidden obscurity and shame, growing and constant change. Like the cicadas, this is your reward, to come out and enjoy the freedom, the mating, and the dating/courting which symbolizes flying and enjoying the fruits of your labor.

Enjoy your season and don’t worry about your surroundings, your environment. They’ll just have to adjust and put up with you. Just like we have to put up with the sounds of the cicadas’ lifecycle such is nature, such is life. It is temporary. This is the prophecy of the cicadas (Brood X, the periodical cicadas).

Are you ready for this momentous and monumental event to happen in your life?
