Spiritual Hygiene (Part I)

Main Course: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service (Romans 12:1).

Many times on the cusps of a new season of prosperity, there’s a lot of activity in preparation for what is to come. But we must not forget that just like working out in the field, it is imperative to come home and take a bathe or shower. We have to maintain a certain level of spiritual cleanliness to prevent ourselves from being overcome by the dictates of the day. We must find balance, use wisdom and reinforce God’s priority for our lives (Matt. 6:9-13; 33). Just like we have to wash up, take a shower or bath every day, brush our teeth, comb our hair and put on clean clothes in the natural, the same applies in the spirit:

Bathe/shower – fountain of forgiveness (Psalms 51)

Brush our teeth – speak/meditate/obey God’s Word (Josh. 1:7-9)

Put on clothes - get dressed - praise (Is. 61:3; Is. 52:1-3)

Comb our hair – take on strength (Psalms 84:7)

First of all, we bathe which means to accept His forgiveness. We ask God to wash us in the blood of Jesus Christ who died for our sins (known – transgressions and unknown – iniquities) and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness so we can continue to walk with him ((1 Jn. 1:9; Ps. 119:105). - cont'd
